2025...
As I sat reflecting earlier today, I remembered the whole reason I started this blog... to document my journey. I've been on this trek over four years now and so much has transpired in that time. So much has happened in just the past year... and here I'll share some of it.
In December of last year, Sedrick fell and broke his jaw in three places. When this happened I questioned God... how did this happen. But after speaking to the surgeon I realized it was only God he was still alive and angels were definitely protecting him. We learned his jaw was held on by just a tiny hair and this prevented his jaw from going up into his skull and killing him. He had surgery a few days before Christmas. Due to this unfortunate accident, his jaw was wired shut for a couple weeks and he missed out on Christmas dinner. There was some issues and he had to have the surgery performed again a few weeks later to reset his jaw line. We give God all the thanks because he healed quickly.
I joined the woman's jail ministry with our church in January and have been so blessed to go in and minister to the women at the local jail. This is definitely a calling the Lord has on my life and I have been anointed to operate in that area. I love it so much!
Florida received snow this year for the first time in years. It was so beautiful to see the children in our neighborhood playing in snow for the first time in their lives. We received a record breaking 9 inches and it shut the town down for three days. The town was not prepared…. With no snow plows or salt trucks, the roads were inoperable.
We met a couple utilizing our services and we were blessed to become friends with them. In March, we took a trip with them to Columbia, South Carolina where we spent a few days relaxing. The trip was a blessing but even more so was their friendship.
In the beginning of April, Sedrick played a big part in making history in Georgia. He and four other men were fighting to be compensated for the decades they spent incarcerated for crimes they didn’t commit. Georgia was one of only twelve states that did not compensate these individuals. To receive any type of relief, a bill had to be sponsored by a house representative and pass through the senate. Unfortunately, each individuals bill did not pass, however, a new one was created and passed into law. A process is now in place that wrongfully incarcerated individuals go through ending with them receiving compensation for every year spent wrongfully incarcerated, as long as a lawsuit is not being served against the state.
May was a busy month for us. Early in, Sedrick’s team of lawyers filed a lawsuit against the state of Georgia and multiple agencies for the corruption and malice that played a part in his wrongful conviction. He had spent 24 years incarcerated for crimes he didn’t commit. In August of 2023, the Lord proved his innocence, set him free, and cleared his name setting the record straight and exonerating him of all charges. The Lord orders our steps and aligned us with a well-respected lawyer out of New York, along with a great team of civil suit lawyers in Georgia. They are all truly a God send. This news hit the headlines and Sedrick was all over the news in Georgia.
We surprised Sedrick’s mom for Mother’s Day and paid her a visit to her home in Valdosta, Georgia. It was a great time of bonding for her and Holly along with a time of restoration for Sedrick and his mother. At the end of May, Sedrick received a phone call from his grandmother whom he hadn’t spoken to since he was a young boy. We made a special visit to see her in southern Georgia shortly afterwards.
I have such a passion for writing had been working on a biography ever since I was young. I had recently begun re-writing it and had completed a chapter highlighting stories of supernatural miracles that transpired in the taxi. With some advice from a friend, I turned that chapter into a book of its own. In the end of May, Taxicab Testimonies, Over 100 Real Life Stories From Inside a Taxi Cab was published and made available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
In June, Sedrick’s family came to take a short vacation with us here on the Emerald Coast. We spent an extended weekend with his mother, sister, and his two nephews. When they were here for our wedding in August of 2024, Sedrick promised his nephews he would bring them here to enjoy the beach. He kept his word and we all enjoyed the time we spent together.
In July, I began receiving requests to be a guest on numerous Christian podcasts to discuss my book. Sedrick was interviewed by the Atlanta Journal Constitution where they highlighted his story and it spread across the nation in various newspapers and websites.
My Uncle Dave and Aunt Madeline met up with us for a weekend getaway in Jacksonville, Florida. We spent some much-appreciated family time together and spent a day exploring St Augustine.
Much of August was spent traveling. It started early in the month with a trip to Miami. A couple we had met through the taxi service needed their car picked up in Miami Florida and returned to their home in the Destin area. It was a long weekend driving there and back but it was a blessing for everyone involved. August 16th was a nationwide free dental day. We have been blessed to be connected to an organization called After Innocence which offers a wide range of services to individuals who have been wrongfully convicted and proven innocent. With this connection, we traveled to New Orleans, where we enjoyed a few days’ vacation while Sedrick received some free dental work.
Shortly after returning home, we embarked on our planned vacation back home to Pennsylvania. This was a week and a half vacation where we took our time enjoying the trip along the way. While in Pennsylvania, we visited my brother Roy and his family. We spent time having dinner, catching up, and supporting my nephews at their local high school football game. From there we traveled across the bridge to New Jersey where we visited a few of my friends and sisters in Christ. We had a Holy Ghost filled get together. The remainder of our time was spent with one of my long-time best friend’s Debbie, vacationing together for a few days in Atlantic City.
As the months continued on, I continued to be guests on many podcasts for my new book along with my testimony of how the Lord led me here to Florida from Pennsylvania and all we have witnessed him do in both of our lives.
This year we held our fourth annual Thanksgiving Dinner Delivery to those who spend the holiday alone or needed a hot meal. My mother works at Fannin’s Family Restaurant, a local diner. They donated a lot of the food and opened up their kitchen to us. Myself, Sedrick, my mother, and another cook spent the morning cooking and preparing 80 plates which Sedrick and I delivered that afternoon. As we met each person or family we took the time to pray with each individual and spoke blessings over them. It was such a joy to see everyone’s gratefulness and how the Holy Spirit touched them.
This Christmas was much different from the last. I have missed my grandmother so much and the traditions our family always celebrated. This year I realized that even though I will always cherish those memories, it's time to make new ones. Sedrick and I began our own traditions this Christmas.
As 2026 is merely minutes away (in our time zone) we say goodbye to 2025 and look forward to all the Lord has in store for us this coming year. Surely, we will recover all that's been lost and so much more.
May this new year bring you blessings upon blessings in every area of your life. Happy New Year!
